WRITING VENICE:
A NEW APPROACH
to WRITING the CITY
Jan Morris, Italo Calvino, Joseph Brodsky… Venice has captured the imaginations of writers throughout history. For the first course of its kind offered by ECA, join writer and facilitator Demi Anter in exploring poetry and prose inspired by La Serenissima, and discover ways of telling your own Venice stories.
Over five enriching days, participants will immerse themselves in the writing of Venice. Take part in deep textual analysis, identify strategies that help writers communicate a sense of place, and learn to access all the senses as we write and adventure through Venice together. Participants will spend an equal amount of time outside of the classroom: on creative foraging walks, bespoke visits to the Biennale and museums, and time with architectural experts for a chance to live and breathe the city as we write it.
Daily sessions are comprised of discussion and analysis, guided creative writing exercises, and sharing and critique.
Each participant will have a dedicated one-on-one feedback session with Demi Anter to discuss their writing and career goals, and receive individual guidance on literary magazine, article, and manuscript publishing.
This course is perfect for:
- Writers: Discover a new approach to writing about place and strengthen your craft
- Artists: Explore the power of literature alongside your existing practice
- Career changers: Give yourself the gift of an immersive, inspiring week of creative exploration
- Creatives from other fields: Express yourself through writing and explore its potential
- Students: Take your midterm break to the next level by immersing yourself in the professional worlds of art and literature
